Orgone FAQ
Short answers first, with links into the longer pages. The site uses claim language deliberately: Reich claimed, proponents claim, and the scientific consensus says.
What is orgone energy?
Orgone was Wilhelm Reich’s proposed universal life energy. Reich treated it as biological, atmospheric, and cosmic; mainstream science did not validate it as a distinct physical field.
Is orgone energy real?
There is no accepted reproducible evidence that orgone exists as Reich described it. It is historically important, but not an established force in physics, biology, or medicine.
What is an orgone accumulator?
It was a layered enclosure or box that Reich claimed concentrated orgone energy. The FDA treated accumulators with medical claims as misbranded therapeutic devices.
Can an orgone accumulator treat disease?
No medical use is recommended here. Historical claims about accumulators do not meet modern standards for clinical evidence, and people should not substitute them for medical care.
What is a cloudbuster?
A cloudbuster was Reich’s atmospheric device: hollow tubes connected to water, claimed to alter atmospheric orgone and DOR. Its existence is documented; verified weather control is not.
What is DOR?
DOR means “deadly orgone radiation” in Reich’s late theory. It is not a recognized category of radiation in physics or environmental science.
Why did the FDA destroy Reich’s publications?
The legal theory treated certain orgone-related writings as labeling or promotional material tied to the accumulator. After the injunction and contempt case, devices and some publications were destroyed under court order and FDA supervision.
Was Reich imprisoned because he believed in orgone?
He was imprisoned after a contempt conviction for violating or refusing to comply with a federal injunction. The belief system and device claims caused the dispute, but the sentence came through contempt proceedings.
What is orgonite?
Orgonite is a later resin, metal, and crystal object that borrows orgone vocabulary. It is not a Reich-designed accumulator, and health or EMF-protection claims need product-specific evidence.
Where should I read about Reich’s broader biography?
This site stays focused on orgone and the hardware. Broader biography, writings, and persecution history belong at reichfiles.com.
